2008 Combined Federal Campaign
Hurricane Gustav Relief Check/Cash Special Solicitation

Although the official kickoff for the 2008 Kings Tulare CFC is set for September 17, 2008, the CFC is providing a way for Federal donors to begin contributing through the Kings Tulare CFC beginning immediately to CFC organizations identified by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as providing disaster relief to those affected by Hurricane Gustav.

How to Give

  1. Print the model pledge form from this link –
  2. Select one or more CFC organizations that are providing disaster relief to those affected by Hurricane Gustav from this link –http://www.opm.gov/cfc/opmmemos/2008/HurricaneGustafDisasterReliefOrganizations.doc
  3. On the pledge form printed in step #1:
    1. Enter your name,
    2. Check the Civilian or Military box,
    3. Enter your Unit/Division name,
    4. Enter your work address & zip code,
    5. Enter your work phone number,
    6. Enter the amount of your contribution under the “Other $________ (cash/check payable to CFC) section, and
    7. Enter the five-digit charity code(s) from the list provided in step #2 above.
  4. Make a copy of the pledge form for your records.
  5. Write a check payable to the “CFC” or make a cash contribution.  (Payroll deductions are not permitted for this special solicitation).
  6. Provide the check or cash, along with the completed pledge form to your designated Department/Agency keyworker.

Keyworkers will process your check/cash designation and provide it to the local CFC office for distribution to the designated charity(ies).
Please note that contributions made through the CFC cannot be earmarked specifically for use in disaster relief.  In other words, CFC contributions may be used for general operating support at the organization’s discretion.  Therefore, contributions to these organizations will allow them to decide whether they will use these funds towards Hurricane Gustav disaster relief or whether they will use these funds to replenish their general funds to be used towards future disaster relief or other programs.

In addition, the CFC should be viewed as a means for providing long term assistance towards organizations providing disaster relief to those affected by Hurricane Gustav.  CFC funds received and processed by the local campaigns after November 18, 2008 will be distributed beginning April 1, 2009.

Although the [Insert Local Campaign Name] is providing this method for immediately contributing to CFC organizations that are currently serving those affected by Hurricane Gustav, there are many other worthy charitable organizations in the National/International (http://www.opm.gov/cfc/08lists/Docs/2008CFCNationalInternationalCharityList.doc) and Local Charity List (brochure/catalogue).  We respectfully request that donors remember that these worthy charitable organizations will still need your generous contributions to continue providing their benefits/services throughout the coming year.  You can contribute to these National/International and Local charitable organizations through cash, check or payroll deduction contributions when the CFC officially begins.
